– KODOKO

Rakshi is Nepal’s ancestral spirit — bold, warming, and revered by generations of Gurkha soldiers. Distilled from native finger millet and shared in the Himalayan cold, it’s more than a drink — it’s a quiet ritual of strength, identity, and belonging.

Since joining the British Army in 1815, Gurkhas have been known to favour Rakshi over rationed foreign spirits — a cultural loyalty that British officers noted with intrigue. It’s a small, enduring symbol of heritage — proof that Rakshi has been more than just a drink for centuries.

At Kodoko, we honour this legacy — reimagining Rakshi with modern craftsmanship while preserving its soul.

Rakshi has been a traditional alcoholic spirit consumed by the Gurkha soldiers for centuries. Known for its robust strength, it has been regarded as a drink that provides warmth and resilience in the cold, mountainous regions of Nepal. Historical accounts by British officials and military officers have consistently highlighted the Gurkhas' preference for their indigenous spirit over foreign alternatives.

The hill men drink a military spirit of extraordinary strength which they claim steels them against the cold.
